It used to play constantly on the radio station we listened to where I worked. Or I remembered part of it…”whoop-de-doo, and hickory dock. They seem to tone the twang down.Īnd then I remembered it. I thought about going with just about any country music christmas song, but country actually does okay at christmas. In the meantime, I’ll just leave this here.Īnyways, worst christmas song. In what I’m sure will be a theme here, I considered “Baby It’s Cold Outside” but I’m assuming someone here will actually pick that one. And you have the gall to demand the gift of pudding for your voluntary and uninvited laying of song upon the land? I mean, really, I heard you the first forty times and if you say it again, I’m going for the BB gun. Sidenote–for anyone interested in Straight No Chaser, they easily win “Catchiest Christmas Song of the Year” for this song featuring Kristen BellĪ strong case could be made for one of the most well-known, often used but entirely irritating and presumptuous We Wish You a Merry Christmas. It’s not necessarily used so much as a carol these days as it is just a recognizable melody, but it’s still my favorite. No matter what version I hear of it, whether it’s Trans-Siberian Orchestra or this particularly cool Piano Guys Cover, or this one by Pentatonix it’s always super cool. So I was facing a lot of options that didn’t really seem to fit the bill, and then, suddenly, one came to mind.Ĭarol of the Bells. For instance, I love pretty much anything that Straight No Chaser (excellent a cappella group–check them out) puts out around the holiday season (Christmas Can-Can and 12 Days of Christmas–listen to them), and my two favorite songs off of Michael Buble’s Christmas album (my go-to Christmas album) aren’t really Christmas songs you’d hear all the time (Cold December Night and Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), for those of you who were wondering). I’m having a very hard time deciding here, as most of the songs that I listen to every Christmas season aren’t necessarily traditional Christmas Carols. I mean, he sounds good all the time, but I can’t say I listen to Josh Groban’s music on regular basis, if at all. Josh Groban’s voice was made for Christmas music. Seriously, Andy McKee on guitar and Josh Groban singing? But while those bring back childhood memories, no Christmas carol compares to Josh Groban’s version of “Little Drummer Boy”. anything by Garth Brooks and “Let There Be Peace on Earth” by Vince Gill. I’m tempted to pick one of songs from my childhood that my mom played nonstop from December 1st to Christmas i.e. I don’t know, but the song gets me every time. While I love “Come All Ye Faithful/O Holy Night”, I have to go with “Christmas Canon”. “Wizards in Winter” leans a little bit too much on the electric guitars and I kind of feel the same way about “Faith Noel”. “Christmas/Sarajevo 12/24” has been done to death. So the real hard part comes down to which Trans-siberian Orchestra song. There’s still one type christmas music I will always listen to–the only kind of christmas music I need. It may just be a reaction to the overplayed or overly childish songs. Turns out there’s quite a few christmas songs I rather enjoy (Fuck yeah, “Little Drummer Boy”). I also think the never-ending encroachment of christmas things earlier and earlier into November has made me even more resistant to them, to the point where I have a hard time getting into the christmas spirit once it is almost christmas.Īlright, I may have been a bit harsh there. I’m the one who can’t sing and doesn’t really like carols.
